As many traditional Ayurveda families, Lotus Ayurveda also carries its own great history. Dr. Samudra Alwis and Dr. Swarna Alwis are the proud co-founders of Lotus Ayurveda. Born to traditional Ayurveda families in Sri Lanka, both of them have a well-reputed family background in Sri Lankan traditional Ayurveda. Therefore both of them were lucky enough to grow up with the knowledge, skills, and values of Sri Lankan Traditional Ayurveda which ultimately made them to choose their life path in the same field. Therefore for them, it is not only a career but also their family inheritance which they are proud to be part of.
Upon completion of the university education in Ayurveda in Sri Lanka and specialized in "Panchkarma" practice in India, both of them started to practice their own Ayurveda clinics down south of Sri Lanka where they served people longer than a decade. Even now people from this area (Ambalangoda and Balapitiya) remember them as "Alwis Dosthara Mahathaya and Dosthara Nona" (Mr. Dr. Alwis and Lady doctor) with gratitude.
The year 1998 was a turning point of their career as Traditional Ayurveda Practitioners when they joined with Sri Lankan tourist hotel field to practice Panchakarma.
Since then they had served in many reputed Ayurveda Hotels on the west coast in Sri Lanka. This led to a huge opportunity for them to identify their potential to work as Ayurveda practitioners in the Sri Lankan tourist hotel industry. During this time they were able to travel to Europe many times to promote Ayurveda in western countries by invitations of many of the European guests they treated. Finally, in early 2004 they were able to start their own Ayurveda clinic as a joint venture with a tourist hotel on the western coast, Sri Lanka. But unfortunately, Tsunami tidal wave which hit Sri Lanka in December 2004 destroyed everything but only sparing the life of their children and their. But once again they started from the very bottom and then "Lotus Ayurveda" was born.

Ellen is one of the earliest students of Lotus Ayurveda. Now has her own Ayurveda Therapy center in France. Very well experienced in the field of Ayurveda lifestyle and Tourism in Sri Lanka. She promotes Lotus Ayurveda as an institute for Ayurveda students and wellness clients throughout the year.
Daughter of Dr. SwarnaAlwis, She finished her Masters's in Nutrition and Rural Development at Belgium University. While She is working for her Ph.D. She is studying to follow her parent's path to become a Traditional Ayurvedic Doctor. She Manages the "Ayurvedee Belgium" Site and promotes Ayurveda and Lotus Ayurveda by conducting courses, workshops, and seminars throughout Europe.
